Natalie Douglas
Tickets

World renown cabaret/jazz artist Natalie Douglas returns to the Orinda Theatre with her stunning tribute to Roberta Flack. In 2022, the Grammy legend was sadly diagnosed with ALS. Now, Natalie Douglas and musical director Mark Hartman lovingly celebrate the hallmarks of Roberta Flack's career and the impact her music and artistry have made throughout the world. On top of winning a multitude of awards for her legendary cabaret shows, Natalie Douglas has won 13 MAC Awards (Manhattan Association of Cabarets). Natalie has brought audiences to their feet from the stages of Carnegie Hall and Birdland Jazz Club (where she holds a decade's-long residency) to concert halls in the UK, Italy, Greece, Monaco, Argentina and beyond.

" A true force of nature..." Clive Davis, The Times

"A true, true star." - BBC London Radio

"Ms. Douglas...used her generous vocal and acting gifts to illuminate a repertoire rich in drama and emotion." - Theatre Pizzazz

VLADIMIR KORNÉEV - May 19, 2024

Vladimir Korneev

Live At the Orinda's season finale will feature the U.S. concert debut of internationally acclaimed and multi-award winning singer Vladimir Kornéev. Growing up in Germany after his family fled Georgia when he was just 6 years old, Vladimir began studying piano, voice and acting, eventually winning a multitude of singing awards, leading to concerts,TV appearances and recordings. His 7 solo albums include "Youkali - Vladimir Kornéev Sings Kurt Weill",  "Vladimir Kornéev Sings Edith Piaf - Live In Berlin" and "Romance" with the WDR Funkhaus Orchestra. Singing in French, English, German and Russian, Vladimir has performed extensively on stage throughout Europe and Canada with his own sold-out concerts, as well as a guest of symphonic orchestras and on numerous TV shows. In addition to his singing career, Vladimir Kornéev is a renowned film and television actor. In 2022 he gained international recognition with the Netflix series, "The Empress", portraying the Russian Tzar Alexander Romanov II. Vladimir Kornéev is currently the face of Hennessy's XO Cognac global campaign and stars in their Life Is the Greatest Odyssey commercial (directed by Academy Award winning director of "La La Land", Damien Chazelle).

Vladimir will be honoring Kurt Weill's life work with his new show, "Youkali - Vladimir Kornéev Sings Kurt Weill" named after Weill's play, written in exile, about a utopian country in which everyone can feel respected, loved and free.

Sometimes it seems as if you can’t think of Kurt Weill without Bertolt Brecht. But the oeuvre of the Jewish composer, who was born in Dessau, Germany matured into an artist in 1920s Berlin and fled from the Nazis, is far more extensive than “The Threepenny Opera” and “One Touch of Venus”. In America, where Weill lived from 1935 until his death in 1950, he wrote musicals, among other things, and enjoyed great success on Broadway and in Hollywood.

With an incomparable voice, charm and passion, Vladimir Kornéev brings the universal language of Kurt Weill’s music into the here and now and celebrates longing and emotion as only the Georgian-born singer and actor can. Kornéev will be accompanied by Stéphane Aubin on the piano.

"One of the greatest voices of Europe." - La Relève

"German complexity, French nonchalance, Russian depth and an unbelievably nuanced voice over several octaves." - Berliner Morgenpost

GENEVIÈVE LECLERC - October 8, 2023 (SOLD OUT)

Genevieve Leclerc

The Live At the Orinda concert season opens with a fundraising gala and the U.S. concert debut of Canadian singing sensation, Geneviève Leclerc! After starring as Fantine in the 25th Anniversary production of Les Misérables (both the US tour and the Toronto production with Ramin Karimloo - for which she received a Broadway World Award nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical), Geneviève Leclerc gained national attention and adoration when she soared all the way to the finals in the hit Canadian TV show, The Voice (La Voix). Oscar, Grammy and Tony winning composer Michel Legrand was so impressed that he invited Geneviève as his special guest on what would be his last concert tour in Russia. Geneviève Leclerc brings to mind such legendary artists like Barbra Streisand, Dame Shirley Bassy, Dalida, Lara Fabian, Celine Dion  - not because she sounds anything like them, but like them, she has a transcendent quality and power in her voice, an inherent intelligence in her choice of material, and she approaches songs as an actor immersing herself in a role. With several albums to her credit, whether singing in French or English, jazz, Broadway, standards or pop, Geneviève has the innate ability to make songs uniquely her own - not only with her intense and powerful voice and creative arrangements, but she connects to whatever she's singing in such an authentic way, that it feels like she's living and breathing the story of the song in real time.

"Geneviève's voice was so powerful she could've broken all the wine glasses of the audience" - Le Journal de Québec

"Her appearance on The Voice revealed this is an artist of Streisand's caliber. Powerful and vulnerable, Geneviève Leclerc fully inhabits her songs." - Culture 3R

"Geneviève Leclerc has an exceptional voice, whose quality and power are between Barbra Streisand and Nicole Croisille. Incredible singer!"  - Échos Vedette

"Geneviève Leclerc defines vocal elegance in a modern way that has enthralled audiences since she first appeared on The Voice. She can be contemporary but the approach to her work seems timeless and establishes a delicate musical intimacy." - Stingray Music

Olivier and Molière Award winner and Grammy nominated singer/actor Ute Lemper makes a rare Bay Area appearance with her riveting one-woman, very personal homage to Marlene Dietrich.

Rendezvous With Marlene is based on a 3-hour phone call and exchange between Marlene Dietrich and Ute Lemper in Paris, in 1988. The evening is a dialog between Ute and Marlene, exploring Marlene's career and personal life from the beginning, in a timeline that eventually meets Ute's timeline with a continuation of their parallel stories. In it she shares Marlene's story by singing her iconic songs as the older Dietrich from all the chapters of her life – the Berlin cabaret years to her fabulous Burt Bacharach collaborations, with Lemper singing songs as herself that were her inspiration as a young aspiring singer/actress.

Ute Lemper's career is vast and varied, having made her mark on stage, film and in concert around the globe. With over 30 albums in her 40 year career, a Grammy nomination and a Billboard Crossover Artist of the Year Award, she is universally praised for her interpretations of Berlin Cabaret Songs, the works of Kurt Weill, the chansons of Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, Jacques Brel, and Astor Piazzolla as well as her own compositions. She has starred in films, TV and in musical productions of Chicago (Olivier Award), Cabaret (Molière Award), Cats (original German production) and many others on Broadway, London's West End, Paris and beyond.

"Ute Lemper electrifies her audience." - Broadway World
